Bullguard is a robust security suite that covers all essentials. It’s not as feature-rich however, it’s an excellent solution for those who wish to get the most value from their anti-virus software. It’s also efficient in terms of resources, avoiding heavy loads on the system while providing a range of options to help reduce the load when needed.
The program opens with a modular hub that has tiles that show the layout of its modules. They include firewalls, antivirus PC tune-ups, game boosters and home network scanners. Those looking to monitor their system for weaknesses will be delighted with the “Vulnerabilities” section that will alert them to issues like missing Windows updates, autostart services and open ports. Gamers will appreciate the “Game Booster” feature helpful, since it will recognize when you’re playing, and will automatically optimize your system.
In our tests, we found that bullguard was highly effective in preventing the spread of malware and was also quite low in terms of system resources when compared to most competing products, particularly when it came to CPU usage. However we did notice the antivirus’s background processes took up quite a bit of RAM, particularly on systems with a limited amount of memory. In high-resolution screens, the hub app appeared pixelated.
Bullguard comes with a mobile-specific security feature with its Premium Protection subscription which includes antitheft, parental control and basic backup support for your smartphone or tablet. The app is a bit basic and lacks some essential features, including webcam security or file shredders. Additionally, support for phones is only offered via live chat and email.
